The Grants and the Cheetah

I could not believe my eyes when this Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) took on the biggest Grant’s Gazelle (Gazella granti) on the wide open plains of Ndutu Tanzania. It was a struggle of monumental proportions that went on for several minutes. I was convinced at one point that the Cheetah was going to win but the Gazelle persevered and eventually escaped. Both animals were completely exhausted.

Magellenic Bickering

Each morning at daybreak several Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus) would congregate in the shallow waves and profess to the world their dominance in screaming it would seem. With a loud raucous non-stop call they would through their heads back and scream to the world at the top of their lungs in a process to sort out their breeding rights. On this morning the sea spray was lit with the warm glow of a spectacular sunrise. It was perfect.

Playfull Cubs

I spent a long time following this small family of Cheetah in the Masai Mara. The cubs were a few months old and extremely playful. The mother would leave them and catch up with some sleep and these little youngsters would play with each other as if their life depended on it. It was amazing to watch and see how agile these little cats were.

The Cheetah Chase

Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) Springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) Kgalagadi, South Africa These Cheetahs singled out a sub-adult Springbok and in an incredible feat of speed and agility chased down the Springbok. In this frame speed and agility is personified in the posture of the cheetah as it leaps for the Springbok. Single Exposure.
